St. Paddy’s Day Parade, Latin dancing, food tours and hockey in the Glebe this weekend

There’s gonna be a whole lot of green this weekend in the Glebe.

We know it’s not quite St. Patrick’s Day yet, but we’re starting the Irish celebration early – with a massive parade, road races, green beer and a rockin’ Beau’s Brewery Bash inside the Aberdeen Pavilion this Saturday.

You’ll want to cinch up your lederhosen tight for this one, as the St. Paddy’s Day Parade gets rocking at 11 a.m. from City Hall before it travels down Bank Street to culminate at Lansdowne. Get here early and scarf down some green eggs and ham at one of our many delicious restaurants before grabbing a front row spot along Bank Street to catch the colourful parade.

But stick around after the parade, and cheer on racers as they cruise through the neighbourhood for the St. Patrick’s Day Road Races. There’s still time to register for the race here.

The celebration kicks into high gear at noon when Beau’s Brewery blows the lid off the Aberdeen Pavilion with a raucous party featuring traditional Irish fare, loads of beer, and some stompin’ good tunes courtesy of The Real McKenzies, Mountain Tay, and more. But green beer and leprechauns aren’t the only thing you’ll spot in the Glebe this weekend. There’s lots of other things to see from Latin dancing to OHL hockey.

Spend Friday at the Horticulture Building and celebrate the 10^th anniversary of the Locura Latina Gala. Jaw dropping dance performances from some of the hottest dancers in the area. Get dolled up and roll into the gala with style. This year’s gala is in support of the Angels for Humanitarian Aid. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. If you’re looking for something to do with the kids while your waiting for the St. Paddy’s Day Parade, head to Whole Foods Market and kick off your Saturday with a fresh fruit snack and an in-store craft or activity at the Kid’s Club. How about some hockey? The Ottawa 67’s may have earned themselves a playoff berth last weekend, but there is no reason for the team to take the foot off the gas pedal just yet. And Saturday’s tilt vs. the Kingston Frontenacs is part of the push the team could make up the standings.  The 67’s are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, but just four points separate them from the 4^th place Oshawa Generals. If the 67 ‘s can string a mini streak together over the final six games of the season, they could make a push for home-ice advantage in the playoffs. Saturday’s game begins at 2 p.m. at TD Place. Click here for tickets. The squad returns to the ice Sunday afternoon for a dustup with the Mississauga Steelheads, who will be out for some serious blood. The Steelheads need just one win to secure the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, so they’ll do everything they can to steal two points from the 67’s. Hungry food lovers will be at home this Sunday in the Glebe, as C’est Bon Cooking’s Taste of the Glebe Tour will highlight some of the area’s top restaurants and food shops. Tickets are $59 for adults and $45 for kids. Click here to fill your belly up nice.
